ABA Therapy Reward System

ABA therapy is a therapy that helps autistic children develop and learn social life skills. To get the kids to cooperate, the specialist wants there to be a reward so the child will have something to work up to. The instructor picks four to five toys and presents it to the child one at a time. The instructor cannot interfere with the child’s decision by playing with the child. The specialist is only allowed to show the child how it works. Now the instructor picks two of the four and places it right in front of the child. The child is asked to pick which they would want to play with. The child picks and now the child is allowed to play with it while the instructor puts the one the child did not pick in a pile out of sight and reach. The instructor takes the toy away from the child and puts it in a separate pile. The instructor brings out two new toys and asks the child to pick. The child does the same exact thing as last time. The instructor pulls out the two discarded toys. The child is asked to pick from those two. The specialist has figured out the child’s third and fourth favorite toys. The instructor now pulls out the toys that the child accepted.  The child picks out their favorite toy and the instructor is now informed of the child’s favorite toys.
